Meet four people benefiting from the Stimulus Package here in Silicon Valley

Most of what you hear in the media about the 2009 stimulus package revolves around big-dollar loans to failing financial institutions or bail outs given to corporate America. That's only part of the story though. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 helps real people too, and it is funding programs right here in Silicon Valley.

The video posted below was made for Step Up Silicon Valley's quarterly network meeting on April 29. Two members of the Obama administration were on hand for the meeting: Alexia Kelley from the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, and John Kelly from the Corporation for National and Community Service.

The video shares the stories of four regular South Bay people who have received help through ARRA.
  • Brenda works part-time at Sacred Heart Community Service through the ARRA-funded SCC Works program helping distribute stimulus food boxes. She also received housing assistance through ARRA funding.
  • Jihane received emergency housing assistance and found part-time work with Santa Clara County thanks to stimulus funded programs.
  • Gion works full-time through SCC Works at a green energy company where his wages are in part funded by the stimulus package.
  • Terri works part-time doing administrative work at the non-profit Career Closet thanks to SCC Works.
Thanks goes out to Rudy Loyda for working together with Sacred Heart to create this video as well as all the other agencies we partnered with to make this project a success.
